Reeves DNA Project Updates - 2q 2023

After a busy first quarter, things have quietened down again.

We had four new members joining the Reeves DNA Project at FtDNA during the second quarter of 2023 and the total current membership is now 429 (as of 30 June 2023).

During April we welcomed David & Charlotte, who is managing the results for Calvin. In May, Pat joined us and in June we were joined by "J" (who just provided an initial).

Through the past quarter we've received the results for two new Y-DNA members, together with one additional set of results for a new member from late in the previous quarter.
Kit 520292 for CT presently ungrouped
Kit 996419 for Michael Reeves DNA Group 03
Kit 994126 for David Reeves DNA Group 10
We are grateful to Michael and David who have both kindly completed our DNA Donor Permission e-mail. Michael was already a TRP member and David subsequently joined our community at The Reeves Project.   We would encourage all new Y-DNA donors or their representatives to make contact and allow us to identify them within TRP.

Unlike some one name DNA studies, the Reeves DNA Project is happy to welcome all those with an interest in the Reeves surname (and its variants), regardless of their gender or their surname. For those who have taken a Y-DNA test, if your results match one of our pre-existing Groups, we will automatically link your kit with that group. All other Y-DNA test results remain in the ungrouped pool.

However, keeping the ungrouped pool free of Y-DNA results we know should never expect a Reeves Y-DNA match makes life much easier for both the admins and those project members hoping to find a Reeves Y-DNA match. If your connection to the R*v*(s) surname is from a female ancestor and you have taken a Y-DNA test, please take a minute to read DNA Group XX's home page within TRP.

During the past quarter we've seen one notification for an existing Y-DNA kit upgraded to a Big-Y. There have been no new results from a new Family Finder Donor or from a new mt-DNA donor. Of course, I may have missed one - as admins we received a large number of emails each quarter. By late June, I've seen over 860 new match notification messages this quarter.

Just occasionally a cluster of messages catches my eye. In late June, six of our existing members of DNA Group 10, including recently joined member David and group co-ordinator Jonathan were notified of a new Y111 match. As far as I'm aware, this new DNA Donor is not (yet) a member of the Reeves DNA Project. We hope they will decide to join the Reeves DNA Project and also TRP to contribute information about their Reeves line.

If you missed last quarter's summary the DNA Project Update for 1q2023 is available here.
