In 1788, Joel had an earmark described as follows: "Slope over left ear half penny each side of same, half penny upper side of right, which was his fathers mark and Recorded to him." This mark had also been recorded by Bethuel earlier. Joel is named as a son in Bethuel's will.

The will of Barnabas Wines of Southold, dated 10 Nov 1813 mentions son-in-law Joel Reeve.

Joel Reeves was overseer of highways in 1801, 1803, and 1804 in Southampton. He is consistently found in the census records from 1790 through 1830 in Southampton.

Joel wrote his will on 19 Jun 1827 and it was proved 19 Mar 1832. He mentions his wife Anna and children Jeremiah, Wines, Manda and Clarissa.

His headstone reads: "To the memory of/Mr. JOEL REEVE,/who died Dec. 14, 1831,/aged 76." His widow's headstone reads: "Anna/widow of/JOEL REEVE/DIED/June 4, 1861,/AE 90."

In 1840, the widow Anna Reeve is listed next to Jeremiah Reeve on the census. She is found in his household in 1860.
