Long Island Obituary Record.
Jonathan Reeve, an aged and much respected resident of Riverhead, died very suddenly at his home there yesterday morning from heart disease caused by over excitement. He was enjoying his usual good health, being out attending to his regular duties until Saturday afternoon. Then the employes of a company composed of ex-County Clerk Orange T. Fanning, William H. Sweezy, George F. Stackpole and C. V. Mazurie, who are laying sewer pipes in the village, reached his home and the laborers began digging the trenches. Mr. Reeve came out and ordered them away, saying that he did not want the ground in front of his premise dug up. He particularly protested as the men began cuting off a large root of one of his shade trees which he prized very highly. Warm words passed between Mr. Reeve and some of the men but the old man was finally induced by friends to go into the house. Immediately after the excitement he was taken ill and died early yesterday morning. Mr. Reeve, although 84 yearn old, had the appearance of a much younger man and was very active for his ago. He was overseer of highways less than two years ago. The funeral will take place to-morrow.
