Narrative

Other than his wife Sarah, Joseph mentions numerous individuals in his will. Some of the more pertinent items relate to:
  • the two sons of my late sister Mary Jackson deceased
  • my Kinsman Michael Reeve of Bocking aforesaid yeoman
  • Joseph Reeve, son of my Kinsman Michael Reeve
  • Richard Reeve (son of my said Kinsman Michael Reeve)
  • William Mihill, son of my late nephew John Mihill deceased
  • my nephew the said Richard Porter

He describes several pieces of land and dwelling places which had been mentioned in previous Reeve wills:
  • my messuage or tenement wherein I now dwell...called Fletcher
  • all that my manor and farm called Boones
  • all that my messuage or tenement and farm called Fletchers Tye otherwise wheelers...formerly the estate of John Reeve deceased late my Bailiff

Joseph styles himself "Joseph Reeve of Bocking in the County of Essex Esquire" in his will. The Bocking Parish Register records the following:
  • Joseph Reeve Esq buried 17 Sep 1790, age 79
  • Mr Joseph Reeve's widow, buried 10 Jan 1791, age 73

Joseph is mentioned in his uncle Richard's will where he is described as cousin. He received the manor called Boones from him. His uncle Thomas Reeve describes him as "my cousin Joseph Reeve (son of my late Brother Joseph Reeve deceased)" in his will. His uncle Jonathan also refers to "my cousin Joseph Reeve of Bocking aforesaid Gentleman."

The probate of the will of his widow Sarah Reeves states "the testatrix was late of the Parish of Bocking in the County of Essex and died this present month of January" which was 1791. This fits with the entry from the parish register. She mentions her late husband Mr. Reeve and niece Frances Tweed in her will. A number of the individuals mentioned in her husband's will are also mentioned in hers including Edward Barron and Michael Reeve. John Reeve of Bocking Tallow Chandler, Joseph Reeve son of Jonah Reeve, and Mary Reeve the wife of Jonathan Reeve of High Garrett are also mentioned. She also bequeathed some property which she had received "by the last Will and Testament of my relation Mr William Windall deceased."
