Narrative

Children of Joseph Reeve and Martha Richardson:
  1. Joseph Reeve, b. 25 Jan 1808 or 1809

According to notes either in the Joseph Reeve Family Bible or appended to the transcription of the family Bible, "Joseph Reeve, sr. was murdered for his money in Philadelphia, him being a sea captain in the year 1815. his wife's maiden name was Martha Richardson her mothers maiden name was Mary Hutcheson."

This may be the same individual in following notice of the murder of Joseph Reeve in the Evening Post, 23 Jan 1816:
On Thursday last a young man of this city was committed to prison on a charge of murder. On his passage to Turk's Island in December last, in a drunken quarrel on board the ship Glenthorne, to which he belonged, after much beating and abusing Joseph Reeves, one of the seamen, received a would from a knife in the prisoner's hand, of which he died a few days after, and was buried at sea. The young man was put in jail at T. Island, and brought back and recommitted in this place. Nat. Advocate

Research Notes

It is of interest that Joseph had a grandson named Samuel Tanner Reeve. Given that many of the Reeve families in the Philadelphia area seem to be connected to the family of Walter Reeve, it would be worth investigating if this Joseph was possibly another son of Samuel Reeve and his wife Lydia Tanner.
