Narrative

Children of Abijah Reeves:
  1. Jarvis Reeves, b. c1792
  2. Isaac Reeves
  3. Nathan Reeves
  4. William Reeves
  5. Martha Reeves

The inventory of this Abijah Reeves is dated 13 Nov 1816. He is described as late of the County of Cumberland. Rachel Reeves was the administrator. Thomas Padgett and Isaac Elwell were the appraisers.

In February 1817 William Davis asked the court to divide the estate land of Abijah. The Orphan's Court later reported "we have made division of the said real estate between William Davis ? of David Reeves by deed dated February the seventeenth 1817 Jarvis Reeves, Isaac Reeves, Nathan Reeves, William Reeves and Martha Reeves."

Records of Cohansey Baptist Church in Cumberland County show a burial for an Abijah Reeve on 25 Oct 1816. However there is a burial on 24 March 1823 for Sarah, wife of Abijah Reeve. This is odd given that the administrator was Rachel. There is also a son of Abijah buried 7 Mar 1815.

Research Notes

In 1820, an Isaac Reeves Jr. sold the land he had inherited from the division of Abijah's land. He appears unmarried by the deed. It's unclear if Abjiah's son Isaac went by Jr. due to another by that name in the area or if this is a grandson.

This may be the Abijah Reeves mentioned in the inventory from the estate of Ruth Rieves of Cape May County.
