Narrative

This individual appears on the 1820 - 1840 censuses for Bedford County and in a number of Bedford County deeds. There were a number of young children in his household in 1820. He first shows up in deed records in an 1819 deed where he bought land from Martin Fisher. Interestingly, William Reeves first appears in deed records that same year. Benjamin bought or sold land with Isham Reeves a number of times. Although it was initially thought that Isham was a son of William Reeves, deeds indicate a close connection with this Benjamin. Isham may have been a son of his. Tobias Reeves is another candidate son, as he was closely connected to Isham.

Benjamin last sold land in 1843 in Bedford County.

Research Note

Note that this is not the same individual as Benjamin Rives who shows up in the neighboring county of Lincoln.

Given his association with Isham and Tobias Reeves and their NC birthplace per the census, it is possible that this is the same as Benjamin Reeves from Montgomery County, North Carolina. This was the only Benjamin Reeves in NC around that time per the census and the age range matches.
