Research Notes

The marriage record filed in Morgan County, Alabama in 1837 for Bennett Reeves names his bride as "Dolly" Kirkland; however Kirkland family records such as the will of her father, Daniel Kirkland, refer to her as Polly. Oddly, Daniel Kirkland named two daughters Mary. Mary Ann Kirkland married Bennett Reeves' brother Hickerson in 1831 and Bennett married Mary, called Polly, in 1837. Research of the two Reeves families and available Kirkland records make it clear that there were definitely two "Marys" in the family.
