Following birth and after starting a family in Bladen County, NC, Edward set off for Texas with his wife and three children, however died from cholera enroute while traveling by boat near Vicksburg, MS. Recovering from the shock, and after several years, his family continued on their journey and eventually settled in Caldwell, TX.
Edward's journey from North Carolina to Texas via Mississippi is recounted in the Confederate Veteran as well as the historical autobiography The Lone Star State.
