Narrative
James was born in Bladen County, NC, and later moved with his mother and two siblings to Mississippi before eventually settling in Caldwell, TX where he married and was known to have fathered five children. In 1861, James joined Confederate forces and served for four years in Hood's Brigade that included numerous battles fought in Virginia. While wounded and on furlough, James reportedly returned to his North Carolina home for a visit.Research Notes
The book Ancestral Sketches by LeRoy Reeves identified James T. Reeves, born 1836, of Caldwell, Texas as a grandson of Robert Reeves.James and his family's move from North Carolina via Mississippi to Texas is described in the Confederate Veteran and, also refers to the middle name 'Turner' with no additional information provided.
Further, his brother Edward is featured in a biographical history entitled The Lone Star State, in which the lives of James' family and predecessors are described in considerable detail.
