The census indicates Edward was born in County (Essex) around 1770. The only Edward Reeve(s) baptized in Essex in the range 1765-1775 was the one baptized at Netteswell, St. Andrew on 11 Jan 1773, son of Wiltshire and Sarah Reeve. Given that Edward was married at Netteswell in 1797, this is a good match.

On the 1841 census taken on 6 June, Edward Reeves appears as head of a household on Silver Street, Abridge in the Parish of Lambourne and Abridge, Essex. His age (rounded) is noted as 70 and he was born in county (Essex). He was employed as an Agricultural Labourer. In addition to Edward, the household comprises Hannah Reeves (aged 60) who is assumed to be his wife plus Richard Reeves (age 20) and George Reeves (25).

The following are recorded in the Chigwell Parish Register. Chigwell sits direct west of Lambourne:
  • Edward Reeve son of Edward and Hannah Reeve baptized ...1799 (unreadable)
  • Mary Reeve daughter of Edward and Hannah Reeve born 21 Nov 1802, baptized 19 Dec
  • (1804) Aug ?? Reeve James son of Edwd & Hannah Reeve born ??? (unreadable)

The following are recorded in the Lambourne Parish Register for their children:
  • 1806. Reeves, Sarah of Edward & Hannah Oct 5
  • 1809. Reeves, John of Edward & Hannah January 15
  • 1811. Reeves, Thos of Edward & Hannah April 21

  • 1821. Sep 23. Born Aug 25. Charles son of Edward Reeve and Hannah (late) Reynolds of Abridge Labr. by R. Sutleffe?

Several of the children's baptism records states the mother's name was Hannah Reynolds. This fits with the marriage record for Edward Reeve and Hannah Reynolds at Netteswell, St. Andrew, Essex on 11 Nov 1797. Edward was a bachelor and Hannah a spinster. Joseph Goodwin and John Theaks were witnesses.

At the time of the 1851 census, on 30 March, Hannah Reeves appears as Head of Household and is a Widow. Richard Reeves is described as Hannah's son.

The death of Edward Reeves is that noted by the GRO Index to Deaths occurring during the first quarter of 1851 in the Ongar Registration District under the name Edward REEVE (sic). His age at death was 81 years. The Lambourne Parish register notes that he was buried on 2 Feb 1851, age 81.
