Byrum Jackson Blackmon (whose name is also shown as Andrew Bynum Blackmon) is identified by Blackmon researchers as a son of Elisha Blackmon and Susan Johnson and brother to Andrew Bynum Blackmon.

The names of the Blackmon brothers are frequently confused. However, the James Reeves will states "Elizabeth wife of Byrum J. Blackman" and later refers to his brother "Andrew Bynum Blackman." Also, in the Lancaster District, SC Probate Court Returns book, it states "Andrew Bynum Blackman Admr of Byrum J. Blackman decd."

Middle initial from son's Civil War record, from baptismal record from the revival at Fork Hill Baptist, and name on Bethena Reaves's Southern Commission claim for loyalty to the Union. Elizabeth H. Reaves was baptized at Fork Hill Sep. 9, 1839. Elizabeth H. Blackmon received $172.23 as due for service of her deceased son Andrew J. Blackmon in the war, previously unpaid.

Elizabeth H. Reaves is listed among those baptized during the revival at Fork Hill on 9 September 1839.
