In 1881, Frederick was living in Mortlake, listed as a clergyman born in Bombay, Mangalore. With him are wife Sophia (72), children Katherine S. (42), Georgiana F. (34), and a number of servants.

REEVES The Reverend Frederick John Hawkes. Personal Estate £46,739 1s. Resworn January 1892 £47,690 5s. 5d. 12 February (1891). The Will with a Codicil of the Reverend Frederick John Hawkes Reeves late of Spencer House East Sheen in the County of Surrey Clerk who died 14 January 1891 at Spencer House was proved at the Principal Registry by Sophia Reeves of Spencer House Widow the Relict and Henry Spencer Edward Reeves of 17 Beaufort-mansions Queen Anne's Gate int he City of Westminster Colonel in Her Majesty's Army C. B. the Son two of the Executors.
