Research Notes

The wife of John T. Reeves and mother of Joseph Allen Reeves was previously believed to be Harriett E. Bedingfield based upon incorrect information published in The Reeves Review II. However, research of Reeves in Baldwin and Washington counties has proven that Harriett was in fact married to a John Turner Rives who died before 1820. Harriett Bedingfield was actually Harriett Elizabeth Hargrove who had married John Bedingfield in 1807 in Richmond County, Georgia. After John Bedingfield's death sometime before January of 1811, Harriett married John T. Rives who served as executor of John Bedingfield's estate after his marriage to Harriett in 1812. Probate records of Baldwin County, Georgia record the death of Harriett Rives in 1828.
