Narrative

Children of Mary Reeves and Thomas Munday:
  1. Thomas Munday, b. before 1709
  2. James Munday, b. c1711, d. Sep. 1762, m. Lucy Paggett
  3. Elizabeth Munday, c1715, probably married unknown Bevan
Mary Munday's husband Thomas died intestate sometime in early 1718 which date is noted on the inventory and appraisal returned to the Essex County Court on the 18th of February 1718. Mary was appointed the Administratrix of the Estate and submitted an accounting to the court on 19th May, 1719. Without a will by Thomas Munday from that timeframe, there is no accurate listing of their children. Mary's 1748 will names the above two sons and numerous grandchildren as well as an Elizabeth Johnson, Elizabeth Bevin/Bevan and Jean Hambleton as legatees who may also have been grandaughters or daughters although it is not stated.

Research Notes

The book Essex County, Virginia Marriages, 1655-1900 published an assertion that was based upon the misinterpretation of a record in Order Book 1, p. 111. The court order book lists Mary, wife of Thomas Munday as "late Mary Reeves" but the authors of the book of marriages interpreted that to mean that Mary was the widow of James Reeves. Mary, along with her husband Thomas Munday are listed along with Henry Reeves and Joseph Reeves as administrators of James Reeves' estate. However, this is questionable since the 1709 will of Elizabeth Reeves names her grandson Thomas Munday which would not be the case if Mary was her daughter-in-law. It is much more likely that Mary Reeves married Thomas Munday and they were administrators of her brother James' estate along with her brothers.
