Death records for sons John T. Reeves and Robert Reeves both state that their father Matthew Reeves was born in England.
The marriage record for David A. Reeves names his father as Matthew Reeves. We know that David was a brother of John T. Reeves of New York City as he is mentioned in his will along with other siblings: R Theodore Reeves and William Reeves, who left widow Mary. The death record for Robert Theodore Reeves also names his parents Matthew and Mary Reeves.
The will of Amos Rooke of Richmond County from 1842 mentions "my daughter Mary, widow of Matthew Reeves" and also mentions "my grandson Robert Theodore Reeves," "my great grandson Matthew Theodore Reeves," and "my granddaughter Maray, the daughter of my daughter Mary." Thus it would appear this was the father-in-law of this Matthew.

The obituary of his son Matthew William from 1836 refers to his father as the "late Capt. Matthew Reeves." Since he was listed on the 1820 census, this gives us the time-window of his death.
