Narrative

In 1817, Nathan Reeves of Lyons, Ontario County, New York sold some land to Samuel B. Reeves and Harmon Reeves. This was a section of a "lot of land Nathan Reeves now lives on." A James Reeves witnessed the deed. Another deed was recorded immediately after this 1817 deed, dated 11 Mar 1803, in which Nathan Reve Jr. bought land from Olver and Benjamin Clark. It would seem this is the same land later conveyed in the 1817 deed.

Nathan is listed on the census in Lyons, Ontario County, New York in 1820. There are two males 16-25 who could be Samuel B Reeves and Harmon Reeves. There are two males over 45 in the household, so apparently an older gentleman living with them as well.

This Nathan is denoted as a Junior in the deeds. Going back to the 1810 census, we find Nathan Reeves Jr. listed in Sodus, Ontario County, New York, about 14 miles from Lyons where he would be in 1820. On the same census page, Nathan Reeves "Sen" is listed, over 45, with no one else in the household. Nathan Jr. had two boys age 10-15, two girls under five, one 10-15, and a young woman 16-25 in the household besides a female 26-44, probably his wife.

Phebe Halsey of Southampton, in her will dated 24 May 1820 specifies lands to go to cousin Ruth, wife of Nathan Reeves, Jr.

On 16 Nov 1825, Nathan Reeves Jr and his wife Ruth deeded some land to Harmon Reeves excepting part of "said tract which was deeded from Nathan Reeves Junr to Nathan Reeves dated the twenty fifth day of December eighteen hundred & four."

In 1840, Ruth Reeves is head of household in Arcadia, Wayne County, New York. Ruth appears to be the woman of the older couple under the Harmon Reeves household in 1830. Thus both Nathan and Ruth appear to be with Harmon in 1830.

Given theses associations it's likely Nathan Reeves Jr. and Ruth were the parents of this Samuel B. Reeves and Harmon Reeves. And additionally would indicate Nathan Jr. died between 1830 and 1840.

Research Notes

There was a Samuel Bishop of Southampton whose will was dated 20 Mar 1811 (probated in Suffolk County Surrogate Court) which mentions a daughter Ruth Reeves. Further research is needed to see if this was Nathan's wife.

Nathan Reeves Sr. may be Nathan Reeves of the Southampton family.
