The will of his brother James mentions his brother William and his son William E. His father's probate information indicates William was of New York (presumably City), which is where he is found in the 1850 census. By 1860 he had moved to Brooklyn, New York, and by 1870 had moved to Union, New Jersey.

William W. Reeves, an aged man living at No. 449 Morris avenue, Elizabeth, attempted to commit suicide yesterday by jumping overboard from the Chancellor dock, Elizabethport. Emanuel Shotwell, an oysterman and a skilful swimmer, plunged into the water and diving down brought the drowning man after he had sunk for the last time.

William W. Reeves, an old and highly respected resident of Elizabeth, N. J., tried to commit suicide on last Friday night by jumping into the river. The cause of the act was the death of a favorite son. He was rescued by an oysterman and taken to the City Hospital, where he died on Sunday night,
