Narrative

Children of William Reve and Mary Burles:
  1. Mary Reve, m. Mr. Pascall, m1? William Spalding?

William Reve of Blackmore, Essex wrote his will in 1597 and it was probate 2 Aug 1597. The only relatives he mentions are his wife Mary, son-in-law William Spalding and "Thomas Spalding? William Spallding? John Spalding? and Sarah Spalding children to William Spallding." He also mentions John Reve, William Reve, Nicklas Reve and Christian Reve widow (of Thomas Reve), but doesn't specify the connection.

Marie Reve, widow of Blackmore, Essex, wrote her will on 9 May 1609 and it was probated 20 Jun 1609. She mentions her daughter Mary and her children Mary Pascall and Thomas Pascall. She also mentions "Elizabeth Burles my brother Johns daughter" and "my brother John Burles" and "George Burles his sonne." She also names William Reve (blind man), wife of Nicholas Reve, Christian Reve (widow of Thomas Reve).

The parish register indicates this Marie was the widow of William, based on the fact that this burial falls in the range of her death based on the the will and probate date:
  • Widowe Reve late wife of Willm Reve of Finggreth Hale? buried the xvii day of May (1609)

Research Notes

It's not clear if the daughter who married William Spalding may have died and another daughter married Mr. Pascall or if William died and Mary remarried to Mr. Pascall between William's death and Mary's death.

John Reeve of Widford who died c1592 was almost certainly this William's brother. Many of the individuals mentioned in William and Mary's wills are also mentioned in John's will. John's will mentions a brother William of Fingrith Hall. Since the burial for William's widow styles him as of Fingrith Hall, this would appear a strong match.
