George Ryves of Damory Court, born 1600 and whose date of death is unknown, is shown by Hutchins as the son and heir of Henry Ryves, aged 23, in 1623. Foster records him as "George Ryves, of Hants, armiger," when matriculating at Wadham College, Oxford, on 17 October 1617, aged 17. He was admitted to the Middle Temple, 13 March 1624/5, as "George Ryves, son and heir of Henry Ryves of Blandford Forum, co. Dorset, deceased" (Ingpen). In the inq. p. m. taken at Blandford, 29 August 1625, after the death of Sir John Ryves it is stated that "John Ryves died at Damery Court 3rd Jan. last past without heirs of his body; George Ryves, esq., son and heir of Henry Ryves, esq., deceased, brother of the said John, is his kinsman and next heir, and was then aged 23 years and more" (supra). By the will of his father (1613) he was given the lease of "my farm in Barton Stacie" and was bequeathed £100 by his mother in 1620. In 1626 as "George Ryves Esquire of Blandford Forum" he brought an action in chancery stating that he was cousin (nephew) and heir to Sir John Ryves, deceased, late of Damory Court, that King Henry VIII by his letters patent dated 4th July in the 37th year of his reign granted a messuage called Luscombe, co. Dorset, to Robert Ryves, great-great-grandfather of the petitioner and to John Ryves, son of the said Robert Ryves. Further, that in the (?) year of Edward VI John Ryves died having issue, John his son, grandfather to the petitioner and that Robert survived his son John until 3 Edward VI (1551) and made his will leaving lands to John Ryves, son of John Ryves, deceased and grandson and heir apparent to Robert. It was added that John Ryves, his grandchild, was the petitioner's grandfather (P. C. C. Chancery Proc. II, 29/30)
Neither the date of his death nor the name of his wife is known, and no will or record of administration of his estate is to be found to shed any further ray of light upon his past made pale by time. Hutchins records as his only issue: John Ryves.
