Robert Ryves, born in 1599, the third son of John Ryves of Randleston, entered the service of the church like his brother John, the Archdeacon of Berks. The parish register of Ewerne Courtney records his baptism there in the announcement that "Mr. John Ryves of Randleston had a man-child christened ye VIth day of Nov. 1599 and named Robert." He was elected to Winchester College at the age of 13 and admitted in 1613 as "of Iwerne Courtney" (Kirby). He was admitted to New College, Oxford, 23 October 1618, aged 18, as "of Dorset, gent; proceeding B. C. L., 20 April 1626; Fellow, 1620-35; Rector of Okeford Fitzpaine; d. 1635." (Foster).
