Transcript

In the name of God Amen the fifth days of January in the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred fifty & eight I John Reeve of Bocking in the County of Essex yoman being sicke & weake in body butt of pfect minde & memory (praised be Almighty God) doe make this my last will & testamt (revokinge all wills by mee formerly made) In manner & forme followinge first I humbly comend my soule into the hands of Almighty God my Creator & of Jesus Christ his sonne my onely saviour & blessed Redeemer trusting through the merritts of his bitter death and bloody passion to have full f? of that imortall kingdome prpared for the elect And my Body to the earth (whence it was taken) to be buryed in Christian Buryall and as to that worldly estate wch it hath pleased Almighty God in his mercie to bless mee herewithall I beqeuath as followeth
Item I give & bequeath to Abigaile my loveing wife all those my messuages lands & tenemts whatsoever with the apptuens nowe in my owne occupation and in the pccupation of Willm Eldred? Halls? John Bayley John Newell and of them situate & beinge in Bockings aforesaid to have & to hold the same messuages lands & pmisses in thapptence unto the said Abigall my wife & her assignes from the daye of my death untill the feast daye of St Michaell tharchangel wch shalbe in the third yeare next ensuinge my decease if the said Abigall my wife shall soe longe live and after her decease or the end or expiration of the said terme of three years wch shall first happen I doe give & beqeuath all & evrie the prmises abovebequeathed to John Reeve my grdchild son of John Reeve my son deceased & to his heirs males of his body lawfully begotten and for want of such issue then to Jeremy Reeve my sonne & his heirs & assignes for ever Provided always that if the said John Reeve my grdchild & his heires shall refuse or neglect duringe twenty days next after he or they shall accomplish his or their full age or ages of one & twenty years & shall be in possession of the said messuage lands & prmisses before in these prsents expressed to surrender into the hands of the Lord of the manner of Stamborne Hall accordinge to the custome of the said manner all those customary messuages lands tenemts & hereditaments whatsoever wth the apptnces beinge in Stamborne aforesaid whereof John Reeve my eldest sonne was seized att the tyme of the death to the use of Jeremy Reeve my sonne his heirs & assminsg for ever and freed and discharged from all charges & incumbrances done or comitted by the said John Reeve my Gndchild or his heirs that then and att all tymes after it shall & may be lawfull to & for the said Jeremy Reeve my sonne his heirs & assigns to enter into & upon all & evrie the said messuages lands tenemts & hereditamts whatsoever before in this my will given to the said John Reeve my gndchild and the same to hold use occupie possess & enjoye until the said John Reeve my gndchild or his heires shall surrender all & evrie the said customary premisses to the uses aforesaid
Item I give & bequeath to Jeremy Reeve my Gndchild son of John Reeve my sonne deceased, all that messuage lands tenemts & hereditaments whatsoever with thapptnces lyinge in Gosfield in the said County of Essex wch I late purcahsed of Henry White & John Humphrey or either of them except the seven acres wch I nowe h...given to my Gndchild James Reeve to have & to hold the same pmisses to the said Jeremy Reeve my Gndchild his heires & assigns for ever provided always that if the said Jeremy Reeve my Gndchild shall refuse upon the reasonable demand of my executors within tenne dayse next after such demand to Release acquit & discharge my executors from all rents & sums of money wch I have or shall receive for any lands tenemts & hereditamts of the said Jeremy my Gndchild then I doe give & bequeath to my exevutors all the said messuages lands tenemts primsses formerly given to the said Jeremy my gndchild to hold the same to them my said executors their heirs & assignes for ever
Item I give & bequeath to James Reeve my gndchild one of the sonnes of John Reeve my sonne deceased all that messuage lands tenemtns & hereditaments whatsoever wth thapptens wch I purchased to me & my heirs of Jeremy Reeve my Brother & now in the occupation of John Coo? or his assignes lynge in Gosfield Bockinge & Hallstead in the County aforesaid or some of them to have & to hold the same to the said James my gndchild his heirs & assigns for ever
Item I give unto my said Gndchild James Reeve sonne of my said son John Reeve deceased all those lands with the apptences in Gosfield & Bocking ? of them wch I purchased of Henry White containinge about seaven acres to have & to hold the same to him & his heirs for ever And if it shall happen that my said Gndchild James Reeve shall not be of his full age of one & twenty years att my decease that then my exeutors herein afternamed shall have & take the rents & pfits of the said lands messuages & pmisses above bequeathed to the said James Reeve my gndchild untill he shall attaine to his full age of one & twenty years and if my said Gndchildren Jeremy Reeve & James Reeve or either of them shall happen to dye without heires of their Body lawfully begotten then I doe give & bequeath the messuages lands & prmisses before bequeathed to him that shall soe dye unto the survivors of him & the heirs of his body And if my said Gndchildren Jeremy Reeve & James Reeve shall both of them happen to dye without hieres of their bodys lawfully begotten then I doe give all the said messuages lands hereditaments & prmisses with thapptences unto them my said gndchildren before bequeathed to Willm Reeve Joseph Reeve & Jonathan Reeve my Gndchildren sonnes of John Reeve my son deceased their heirs & assins for ever
Item I give & bequeathe to Jeremy Reeve my sonne all those freehold & customary messuages lands tenemts & hereditamts whatsoever wth the apptnces situate lyinge & beinge in Stambourne & Redgwell in the County aforesaid nowe in the occupation of ? Smyth & Thos Willey or either of them or their assigns wch I late purchased to mee & my heirs of Mr Eve? Mr Reymond & Mr Wade to have & to hold the same to him the said Jeremy & his assigns duringe the terme of his naturall life and from & after his decease I doe give & bequeath the same to Jeremy Reeve my gndchild sonne of the said Jeremy Reeve my sonne & the heires of his body & for want of such issue then I give the same to Jeremy my sonne his heirs & assigns fo ever
Item I give & bequeath to the said Jeremy Reeve my sonne all those my freehold & customary messuages lands tenemts & hereditamts whatsoever wth the apptnces situate in Bumpstead att the Twer in the said County of Essex wch I purchased to me & my heirs of George Barron & Willm Stubbing or either of them to have & to hold the same to the said Jeremy my sonne his heires & assignes for ever
Item I give & bequeath to Willm Reeve Joseph Reeve & Jonathan Reeve my Gndchildren sonnes of John Reeve my son all those messuages lands tenemts & hereditmts whatsoever with thapptences situate in Bockinge & Gosfield aforesaid or in either of them wch I purchased to me & my heirs of Mr Simys? & nowe in the occupation of Jeremy Reeve my sonne & John Britton or their assignes containinge by estimation thirty & foure acres more or lesse to have & to hold the same to them their heirs & assignes for but not by enter?upon them until their sevall ages of one twenty yeares & my executors?...
Item I give & bequeath to John Reeve my gndchild son of Jeremy Reeve my sonne all those messuages lands tenemts & hereditamts whatsoever wth thapptnces situate in Bockinge aforesaid wch I purchased to me & my heirs of Kirgard Abraham & others & nowe in the occupation of the said Riggard Abraham to have & to hold the same to the said John my gndchild & the heirs of his body lawfully to be begotten and four want of such issue then I doe give the same to Jeremy Reeve my son & his heires for ever.
Item I give & bequeath to Abigall my wife all that capitall messuage or tenemt situate in Redgwell in the said County withall & singular the outhouses buildings barnes stables orchards yards gardens lands tenemts & hereditamts whatsoever wch the apptnts to the same ? situate in Redgewell & Stamborne aforesaid or either of them wch I late purchased to me & my heires of Henry Bigg & John BIgg & nowe in the occupation of Darnia? Smyth or his assigns to have & hold the same to the said Abigaile my wife & her assigns during the tenure of her naturall life and after her decease I give & bequeath all & ? the same ? to Jeremy Reeve my sonne & his assignes during the terms of his natural life and after the decease of the said Jeremy my sonne I give & bequeath the same to Jeremy Reeve my Gndchild sonne of the said Jeremy my sonne & the heires of his body lawfully begotten & for want of sure issue to the said Jeremy Reeve my sonne his heires & assignes for ever
Item I give & bequeath to Sarah Reeve Abigall Reeve Mary Reeve & Jane Reeve the four daughters of my said son Jeremy the sum of forty pounds a piece to be paid unto them att their sevall ages of one & twenty years or daye of marraige wch shall first happen
Item I give to ? Dr Gardon? my loveinge pastor forty shillings to preach my funerall sermon
Item I give to the poore people of Bocking aforesaid forty shillings to be distributed amongst them at the discretion of my executor hereafternamed within one month next after my decease And further my mind will & meaninge is that if any of the said foure daughters of my said sonne Jeremy shall happen to dye before her or their legacie or legacies shall become due as aforesaid that then her and their legacie and legacies soe dyeing shalbe equally devided amongst the survivors or survivors of them foure
Item all the rest of my goods chattells cattell household stuff plate money & debts unbequeathed I give and bequeath to the said Abigall my wife & my said sonne Jeremy to be equally devided between them and I doe desire my Brother Porter & my son John Fitch to devide the same ? them if they cannott agree between themselves
Item I give & bequeath unto my said son Jeremy & his heires for ever all other my messuages lands tenems & hereditamt whatsoever unbequeathed and I doe make nominate & appoint my said lovinge wife & my sonne Jeremy executors of this my last will & Testament in witness whereof I have to this my will and testament written in five sheets of paper sett my hand & seale to the last of the said five sheete.
