Transcript

In the name of God Amen! I Edward Reeves of the town of Southampton in the county of Suffolk and State of New York yeoman being mindful of my mortality do this 8th day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty six make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following (to wit)
First. I give and bequeath unto my son Lemuel W Reeves the sum of fifty dollars Also to his son Henry A Reeves one hundred dollars also to his sons Edward and Walter each the sum of ten dollars.
Second. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Peirson the sum of fifty dollars - also all that certain lot of woodland lying in the great South Division, Bounded, north & west by Lewis Scott, east by the heirs of Albert Rogers, south by the heirs of Samuel Jagger, containing three acres more or less. Third, I give and bequeath unto my son Albert Reeves the equal undivided half of my lot of land lying at Kist Neck, bounded North by the heirs of Isaac Sayre, east by the pond - south by Enoch Halsey and west by Frist? Neck Lane be the same more or less - also all that certain lot of wood land in the great south Division. Bounded north by the heirs of Obidiah Wright - east by Jehiah H Sayre, south by the heirs of John White and west by William Mackie, containing three acres more or less. Also the four following several lots of meadow lying on the south Beach in the Pine Division (to wit) Nos 8 - 28- 33 & 34 also one cow.
Fourth I give and bequeath unto my daughter Harriet Howell the sum of one hundred dollars - also one half of that certain lot of land called the orchard lying in the great south division. Bounded north partly by Franklin Jagger and partly by Albert Foster east partly by the heirs of Isaac Sayre and partly by Henry Reeves - south by B H Foster and west by George Post containing six acres more or less also one cow.
Fifth I give and bequeath unto my son Augustus Reeves the sum of one hundred dollars, also all that certain lot of woodland called the Reeves Lot in the great South Division Bounded on the north by Nathaniel Sanford East by the north sea, highway or road - south by Elias W Howell and West by James M Hildreth & Wm Post, containing eight acres more or less.
Sixth I give and bequeath unto my two daughters above named all the wearing apparel beds and bedding and all the cooking utensils and all the clothing that was their mother's and the furniture and all other articles in the house that their mother calls hers.
Seventh I give and bequeath unto my four sons all my wearing apparel and books.
Eighth I will and ordain that the executors of this my last will and testament after my decease shall with all convenient speed sell and convey all my land and woodland lying in Pond Quoge in fee simple to any person or persons and convey the same by good and sufficient deeds and out of the avails of the same first to pay my funeral expenses, and I give out of said money the sum of ten dollars to Edward the son of Lemuel as herein before given, and also ten dollars, and also ten dollars to Walter, and also ten dollars to Edward C, the son of Henry, and also ten dollars to the Presbyterian Society in Southampton and also ten dollars to the methodist Episcopal society in Southampton, both of which last mentioned sums are to be expended for Bibles. And the remainder of the avails of said land I give equally to all of my grandchildren.
Ninth. All the rest residue and remainder of my property and estate both real and personal and not herein given and disposed of after payment of my debts and legacies I do give and bequeath unto my son Henry Reeves and to his heirs and assigns forever. And I do hereby constitute and appoint my sons Henry and Albert and my friend Jonathan Fithian executors of this my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above mentioned.

The above instrument consisting of one sheet was now here subscribed by Edward Reeves the testator in the presence of each of us and was at the same time declared by him to be his last will and testament and we at his request sign our names hereto as attesting witness.

Be it remembered that on this ninth day of March in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty seven before Abraham T Rose surrogate of the said County personally appeared George Herrick and Pyrrhus Concer who being by the said Surrogate duly worn and examined do depose and say that these deponents were well acquainted with Henry Reeves (sic) deceased that they were present as witnesses and did see the said Edward Reeves deceased subscribe at the end thereof the instrument now produced and shown to these deponents purporting to be the last will and testament of the said Edward Reeves deceased bearing date the eighth day of January in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty six, that such subscription was made by the said testator in the presence of these deponents, that the said testator at the same time declared the instrument so subscribed by him to be his last will and testament whereupon these deponents signed their names at the end thereof at the request of the said testator, and that the said testator at the time of executing and publishing the said last will and testament was of full age, of sound mind and memory and not under an restraint.
