Narrative

Children of Benjamin Strong Reeve and Mary Tucker:
  1. Martha Reeve, b. c16 Jun 1790, d. 13 Nov 1809

Benjamin S. Reeve is named as one of the administrators of his father's will. He is mentioned in Mattituk Presbyterian Church records as a son of Selah Reeve, but his baptism wasn't recorded at the time so the date was forgotten. A list of Selah's children contained in an old grammar book published in 1771 states he was born 26 Oct. 1766.

From the records entered into the Session Book for the Presbyterian Church of New Windsor by Rev. John Close:
  • 1788 Dec 23 | Benjamin T Reeve & Polly Tucker

Benjamin appears in Newburgh, Orange County, New York in the 1800 census with males: 1 (under 10), 1 (16-25), 1 (26-44); females: 2 (under 10), 1 (10-15), 1 (26-44).

Their daughter Martha died in 1809 and was buried in the Old Town Cemetery in Newburgh. The headstone reads: "In/Memory of/MARTHA REEVE/Daughter of/Benjamin S. and Mary/Reeve who departed/this life November 13th/1809/aged 20 years 4 months/and 27 days."

In 1810, he appears in Newburgh with males: 3 (under 10), 2 (10-15), 1 (16-25), 1 (26-44), 1 (45 and over); females: 1 (under 10), 2 (10-15), 1 (26-44).

His wife Mary died 4 May 1813 and was buried in the Old Town Cemetery. The headstone reads: "In/Memory of/MARY, Consort of/Benjamin S Reeve/who departed this life/May 4th 1813/Aged 43 years 3 months/and 22 days."

In 1820, Benjamin appears in Cornwall, Orange County, with males: 1 (under 10), 1 (45 and up); females: 1 (26-44).

In 1830, he appears in Blooming Grove, Orange County, with males 1 (under 5), 1 (60-70); females: 1 (15-20), 1 (50-60).

According to Graveyard Inscriptions of Orange County, N. Y., there was a Benjamin Reeve buried at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Orange County who died 17 Jul 1832, age 68y, 8m, 18d. This doesn't quite match with the grammar book date, but seems to be the same individual.
