From History of Vigo County (1880):
The first settlers arrived in this township about 1820, settling near the west center of town, among the first being John Colton, Daniel and John Jenks, Antony Connor, and William Phillips, while further south were Moore and George Hussey. In 1825 Zadoc Reeves located in the Jenks settlement, having come from Carlisle, where he had settled in 1819, to build a distillery for Jenks, he being a carpenter and millwright.

The biography of his son Hiram contained in History of Montgomery county, Kansas appears to affirm that Zadoc was the son of Elias, stating about Zadoc: "His father was Elias Reeve, a native of New York, and was of English descent." However, it then mixes them up and lists Zadoc and Mary's children as belonging to Elias and Mary. It states:
The children of Elias and Mary Reeve were: David, Lovica Holloway, of Great Bend, Kansas; Minerva Coltrin, of Indiana; Hiram, our subject; Mary Haymaker, of Indiana, who lives on the old homestead, and George. Hiram Reeve married Elizabeth Reeves, a native of Vigo county, Ind., and a daughter of John and Jane (Carico) Reeves.

Zadoc may have had some older relatives living with him for a while. In 1840, there is a couple aged 60-70 in the household.

General Land Office records for government land show that Zadoc Reeve of Vigo County, Indiana bought forty acres of land there, with certificate dated 30 Mar 1837. He purchased another eighty acres with certificate dated 1 Feb 1839.

The following entry on Zadoc's daughter from the History of Vigo county, Indiana contains pertinent information on Zadoc:
MARY M. REEYE, Glenn, Lost Creek township, was born in the township where she now resides, June 25, 1836, a daughter of Zadoc and Mary M. (Colton) Reeve, natives of New York, former of whom was born October 14, 1796, and latter April 11, 1800. They were married December 29, 1816. Zadoc Reeve was a house and ship-carpenter, and was one of the pioneer settlers of this county. He laid off the first school district in Lost Creek township, and bought the farm on which Mrs. Reeve now resides, containing eighty acres, before the National Road was made. He had a contract on the National Road from Clear Creek to Cory’s Creek; also constructed the bridges across Lost Creek, Sugar Creek and Clear Creek, and built the first schoolhouse in Lost Creek township, which was called “Reeve’s school-house.” Mr. and Mrs. Reeve had a family of nine children, of whom Mary M. is the eighth in order of birth. Mr. Reeve was a Master Mason; he served as school trustee. He died March 7, 1885, and his wife died August 15, 1862. Mary M. Reeve has two sons: David M. and Zadoc, who are industrious and prominent farmers.

Zadoc wrote his will on 23 Oct 1883 and it was probated in Vigo County on 11 Mar 1885. He mentions his wife Mary and children Lovice Chapin Holloway, Minerva Catlrin?, Hiram Reeve, Mary Reeve and George W Reeve. He also mentions the wife of William McNutt who had formerly been married to his son Daniel M. Reeve (actually David M.) (then deceased). He also mentions his nephew Almond Reeve.

Research Notes

Note that while Zadoc's will mistakenly refers to his son David M. Reeve and Daniel M. Reeve, there was a Daniel Reeve in the area in the early-mid 1800s. More research is needed to determine if there is a connection.
