There are references in the York County Common Pleas records to a James Rives and James Rives Junr. from 1740 and 1749. James of Jefferson, Maine appears to be a son of James Rives Junr referred to in these records. They are said in the court records to be from Wiscassett, which is twenty miles south-west of Jefferson. In deeds from 1787, James of Balltown (Jefferson) is named an heir of a James Reves/Rives.
Marriage record states he was married 2 Sep 1767 at Woolwich, Sagadahoc, Maine. Marriage recorded at Jeremysquam (Westport Island), Maine 3 Sep 1767. Records from Winship's Church in Woolwich state: "James Revice to Lettis Rodgers of Squam, September 3, 1767." He is said to have had nine children. Lettice was born about 1749 and died in 1833. They are both buried in the Trask Lawn Cemetery, Jefferson, Maine. James's headstone inscription gave death as 11 Feb 1813, age 67.
James removed to the land of wife's father, Moses Rogers, on the east side of Dyer's Pond, Jefferson, Maine by 1760. Was probably a farmer, husbandman, possible brickmaker, etc. which was usual for men of the area at that time.
James Rivis is noted as being a private in Capt. Mecres Carr's detachment under Col. Joseph North's Regiment for 2 days of service during which he assisted in retaking the mast-ship "Gruell." He is listed on a role from Newcastle (now in Lincoln County, Maine) dated 15 Sep 1777.
Listed on the list of men in the Plantation of Bawltown (Balltown, Whitefield/Jefferson) from sixteen years and upwards from 1777.
In 1778, Thomas Cunningham of Diers (actually Dyers) Meadow in Lincoln County deeded a lot of land on Diers (Dyers) Pond to James Rives and Jacob Rowell for one hundred pounds. Dyers Pond is located one mile from Jefferson. (DB 12, p270) The same year, Benjamin Dow sold James "Rivice" 220 acres in Balltown. (DB 12, p267)
From Centennial celebration of the town of Jefferson, Lincoln County, Maine, U.S.A.:
"At a meeting in April, 1807, after electing a few officers (pro tempore as recorded) and taking a ballot on the separation of the District of Maine from Massachusetts, in which 139 votes were for separation and 47 against it, they voted to adjourn the meeting on the west side to meet at Abraham Choate's on the 27th inst. and also voted to adjourn the meeting on the east side to meet at James Reeves' on the same 27th inst." (p25)
"The first town meeting was called to meet at the dwelling house of James Reeves on Monday, the 11th day of May, 1807." (p26)
Lettice Revis of Jefferson in the County of Lincoln, Maine was granted letters of administration on the estate of James Revis on 1 July 1813.

The Subscribers Commissioners appointed by the Hon. Silas Lee, Judge of Probate of the county of Lincoln, to receive and examine the claim of the several creditors to the estate of JAMES REEVS, late of Jefferson, in said county, Yoeman, deceased, represented insolvent; do hereby give notice, that six months from this date, are allowed said creditors to bring in and prove their debts and that we will attend that service at the dwelling house of widow Lattive Reevs in said Jefferson, on the second Monday of each of the following months, February March and April next, from 10. A. M. until 4 o'clock P M.
