Narrative
Children of Martha Reeves and Robert Moseley:- Edward Moseley, b. c1705
- Benjamin Moseley, b. c1707
The identity of Martha Reeves' husband was unclear based upon inconsistencies in the Essex County records. A court order of 1711 regarding a petition filed against the administrators of the estate of her brother, James Reeves, named Robert "Moss" and wife Martha. However, two years previously in 1709, the will of her mother Elizabeth Reeves suggested that her husband's name was Moseley, not Moss, in that Elizabeth left a bequest to a grandson Edward Moseley.
On the 10th of May, 1707, Martha Moseley, her brother-in-law Thomas Munday and James Reeves signed a bond for Martha's administration of the estate of Robert Moseley, deceased. This is noted in Order Book B as well as D&C Book 12, at page 411. This document appears to explain the inconsistencies noted above in that Robert Moseley, Martha's first husband died before May of 1707, after which Martha married Robert Moss who is named in the 1711 Petition by heirs of James Reeves against the administrators of his estate.
The will of second husband Robert Moss was written on the 25th of November 1713 and presented for probate on the 13th of May 1714. In his will he names his wife Martha and seven children. Since Martha and Robert Moss would only have been married for around six years, the majority of these children were probably from a prior marriage and there is currently no known record as to which children are from his marriage to Martha Reeves.
