Prestley's name appears as Prestley, Presley, and Presly Reeves. Prestley was how the name was spelled in his first known appearance in legal records, when in 1797 he was named as an administrator of his Moses Reeves's estate in Kershaw Co., SC. Most subsequent references use the spelling Presly.
Presley was enumerated in Kershaw County in 1800. His near neighbors included John Goodwyn, Elizabeth Strowbridge (identified in land records as a neighbor of Moses Reeves and Daniel Payne (aged 26-45), who was security for Presley and Jesse when they administered Moses's estate. Prestley's household included 1 male aged 0-10, 1 male aged 10-16, 1 male aged 16-26, 3 females under age 10, and 1 female aged 16-26. Presley was shown on page 309, and Stephen Reeves (3 males under 10, 1 male 10-16, 1 male 16-26, 1 female 16-26) appeared on page 307.
Presley has not been located in the 1810 South Carolina census; based upon later census reports for his children (Emily, Fannie, and William) it would appear that Presley was living in Tennessee at some point between 1807 and 1814. The tax lists from 1809 and 1810 for Maury County, Tennessee, list him along with some of the family of Reuben Reeves.
Presley Reives listed as a buyer at the estate sale for Abraham Pickens in Maury Co., Tennessee in 1815.
Presley had returned to South Carolina by 1820, however, for he was enumerated in Lancaster County in 1820:
Presly Reeves 2 males under 10 2 females under 10
1 male 16-26 3 females 10-16

In 1832, Presley was involved in a common pleas case in Lancaster County about some money he owed to Jasper McD?. In the case it records the initial agreement: "Liberty Hill Apr 22, 1830 On demand with interest from 1st January last I promise to pay w? order of JMcGarlick ninety two 30 -/2/100 Dollars for value recd...witness my hand & sealPresley Reaves (LS)".

Research Notes
Emily Reeves was thought to possibly be a daughter of Prestley Reeves. However the her widow's pension application for the service of Jonathan Horton in the War of 1812 shows that she was the widow of a George Reeves.Sources
