Childs in Reliques of the Rives leaves out this generations, apparently missing in a Harleian MSS. pedigree he was using. The Visitations of Hampshire give the following concerning this John:
II. JOHN RYVES. This John Ryves was seconde of his Father marr Jane Waston (sic) of Luckinton in Somersett and hath issue

Research of John Anthony Reeves identified his will from the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, naming him as John Rives of Braughton in Southampton (Hampshire). The will is dated 18 May 1614 and was probated 8 Jul 1614. He mentions the following individuals:

• William Rives my youngest sonne

• Jane Rives my beloved wife and Francis Rives of Horsebridge...and William Spencer...my brethren whom I doe constitute...executors

He gave the manor of Drayton in Barton Stacey to his son Edmund.
