John write his will on 5 Jun 1583 and it was probated 4 Nov 1583. In it he styles himself "John Rives of Bramsburye" and directed that he be buried "Churche Litten of Allhallowes in the Churcheyarde of Bartonsacye nexte my mother." He gave money to the Cathedral Church of the Trinity of Winchester and his parish church of Barton Stacy. The will mentions land in Church Okeley and Whitechurch and sheep that were in Wiltshire. A Mr. Robert Rives was one of the overseers. The will mentions all the above children.
The Visitations of Hampshire and Isle of Wight from 1686 gives the following about John and his children:
I. JOHN RYVES of Bramsburie in Com Southton had issue
- Edmund Ryves; (perhaps matric. St Mary Hall, Oxford 27 Nov. 1581 aged 19); died without issue being eldest sonne
- John of whom below (II)

- Augustine Ryves. This Augustine was the 4th sonne. mar. Amy daughter of .... Hunt of Popham & hath issue
According to some of the Harleian manuscripts, John married Johan Samon.
Research Notes
Childs relies on a Harleian manuscript concerning the Ryves family which apparently was missing a generation. According to the Visitations of Hampshire from 1686, Edmund Ryves who married Marie Nichols was the grandson of this John rather than his son. The visitations state that this John's son Edmund died without issue. The research done by John Anthony Reeves agrees with the Visitions lineage.Sources
