July 2019

Wiki Stats - End June 2019

The total number of pages in the Wiki (as at 1 July 2019) now stands at 8951 (previously 8833, 8711, 8685) an increase of 118 pages during the month. Of the total, 1709 pages (was 1700, 1694, 1692) begin with a number and are most probably a date related gleaning. We currently have 3824 wiki pages categorised as "People", of which 3372 begin with the letter "R".

TRP Users

We ended June 2019 with 387 user accounts registered in TRP, an increase of five. However three of those new accounts were used for testing. Two users successfully activated their accounts during the month. We welcome new community members Kathy and Ruthann and look forward to reading their contributions to TRP.

If you have yet to do so, please set a meaningful name for yourself as described in First Steps - Part 1. It isn't difficult and only takes a couple of minutes to do.

If you have already started the enrollment process and are having issues, please do let us know. Please contact New User Admin by sending an email to TRP123 (at) TheReevesProject (dot) org if you're stuck and need help. If you are not yet a member and would like to contribute to our community, please complete our Join Us form to start the membership enrolment process.

Reeves DNA Project Update

We've seen a lot of interest in the Reeves DNA Project over the past three months and at the end of June the project had 331 members an increase of 12 over the quarter. During April we welcomed three new members, Linda, Belinda and Kathy. May was a little quieter, with just two new members; Collin and Susie. In June, we've seen a flurry of activity with seven new members, Glenn, Stephen, Marsha, Michael, Sarah, Solomon and Jan.

Of the four new Y-DNA Donor members, two have already received their results and two are awaiting their results. The two with results both matched an existing group. There was also one result from a member who joined us last quarter.
Kit 905310 for GR added to DNA Group 8
Kit 906228 for MR added to DNA Group 10
Kit IN56923 for DS added to ungrouped
We hope these individuals or their representatives will make contact and allow us to identify them within TRP. See Y-DNA Donor Permission below. We've also see one new Family Finder result and one new mt-DNA result for Reeves DNA Project members during the past quarter.

As we hope everybody realises, the Reeves DNA Project and The Reeves Project (TRP) are two separate entities. The DNA testing company Family Tree DNA provides the tools for the Reeves DNA Project to compare and contrast our DNA test results. TRP is run by a group of enthusiastic volunteers and hosts a wiki which provides a means to explore the lives of our ancestors and their relatives in much greater detail. It is always gratifying to see new DNA Project members who we recognise as TRP community members and to have Reeves DNA Project members come and join us here at TRP.

DNA Group Pages at TRP

The Reeves Project (TRP) wiki is where the Reeves DNA Project is able to share information about our respective R*v*(s) families.

Early in June we embarked on a refresh of the DNA Group pages within TRP. Particularly for some of our larger groups, the content of the existing pages had become a bit of a challenge to navigate. We've added one more page to each group and in doing so made each of the pages more focused in its purpose. There is an overview of each of the DNA Group pages here for the curious.

Whilst refreshing the look and feel of the DNA Group pages, we've also notice numerous omissions in the membership of our groups which we've corrected. We have also made other content additions, so please do take a moment to review any of the DNA Groups you have an interest in.   However, please be aware that the refresh is still a work in progress. I'd originally intended to start with Group 01 and work sequentially though to Group 20. But I quickly came to appreciate that untangling the history of our oldest groups and our larger groups was more than a quick afternoon's effort.   So I've turned the challenge I've set myself on its head and started by working back from Group 20. The history of the newer groups was less involved and because they are our newest groups, they tend to have fewer members, making each challenge easier. Thus far I'm back to Group 07.

Y-DNA Donor Permission

Part of the DNA Group refresh at TRP has involved putting in place a process which lets Y-DNA Donors give permission to TRP to name them.

If you joined the Reeves DNA Project at FtDNA after mid 2018, you may notice that we've only used your initials and not your full name. Whether you are a member of TRP or not, please take a moment to review our page about DNA Donor Information and if you are a Y-DNA Donor or manage a Y-DNA Donor's kit, please do complete the form to give TRP permission to name you.

If you missed last quarter's summary the DNA Project Update for 1q2019 is available here.
