I Lewis Reeve of South Carolina Granville County S. Helenah Parish do make this my last Will and Testament in manner following. In the first place, I desire that my Estate may be kept together ‘till the following Legacies be paid off. I give to my Cousin Mary Barnwell Seven hundred pounds Currency and one Town Lott known and distinguished in the plat of the Town of Beaufort, by number three hundred and thirty two, to her and her Heirs, for ever. I give to my Cousin Phebe Barnwell Seven hundred pounds Currency and one Town lott, known in the aforesaid town by number one hundred and twenty eight to her and her Heirs for ever. I give to my Cousin Ambrose Reeve, of Ashford, in Kent, Son of Thomas Reeve, one hundred and fifty pounds Sterling. And to my Cousin (blank) Reeve (son of the aforesaid Thomas Reeve and brother of the above mentioned Ambrose Reeve,) who in 1769 lived at Dover One hundred and fifty pounds Sterling, to them or the Survivors of them, to be remitted them in good Bills of Exchange within two Years after my death. I give to my friend William Weight of S. Helenah my Horse Buck and my two Roan Mares of the English breed as a testimony of my regard for him. I desire that four hundred and twenty pounds may be put at interest for the use hereafter mentioned, I give to my wench named Nanny her freedom, with the use of four Acres of Land, as She has always, Served me faitfully. I desire that the Interest arising from the four hundred and twenty pounds, aforesaid, may be paid half Yearly to the said Nanny, and at her death, that good Bills of Exchange may be got for Principal and Interest, and that it may be remitted to my Cousins Reeves’s aforementioned to them or the Survivors of them. The above Legacies being paid, I desire that the remainder of my Estate Real and Personal, may equally divided, one half of which I give to my Sister Sarah Gibbes, to her and her Heirs, for ever, in Case of them dying before me, I desire it may be divided amongst her Children equally. The remaining half, I desire may again be equally divided, one half of which, I give to my Sister Ann Carson and her Heirs forever, but if she dies before me I desire it may go to her son, James Stuart, to be delivered him when he is one & twenty, the remaining half I bequeath to the aforementioned James Stuart, Son of my Sister Carson to be delivered him when he is one & twenty, but if the said James Stuart should die before he is one and twenty without leaving issue lawfully begotten I desire that the half that should have been his may go to my Sister Ann Carson and her Heirs for ever. Lastly I do hereby Nominate Constitute and appoint my friends Robert Gibbes, James Carson, & John Barnwell Son of my Uncle Nathaniel Barnwell Executors of this my last Will and Testament, and do Acknowledge this to be my Will, In witness whereof I the said Lewis Reeve do hereunto Set my hand and Seal this twenty seventh day of April 1771. In the Eleventh Year of his Majesty’s reign.
