Selah appears in the 1800 census in Newburgh in Orange County, New York with 2 males under 10, 1 age 10-15, one 16-25, and one (himself) age 26-44, along with one female 10-15 and one 26-25.

In 1810, Selah was in Newburgh with males: 2 (under 10), 1 (10-15), 1 (16-25), 1 (26-44); and females: 3 (under 10), 1 (16-25), 1 (26-44), and 1 (45 and over).

In 1820, Selah was in Newburgh with males: 2 (under 10), 1 (16-18), 1(16-25), 1 (45 and up); and females: 2 (under 10), 1 (10-15), 2 (16-25), 1 (26-44), and 1 (45 and up).

In 1830, Selah was in Newburgh with males: 1 (5-10), 1 (10-15), 1 (15-20), 1 (60-70); and females: 2 (15-20), 1 (50-60). His son Christopher was listed next-door.

Widow Elizabeth appears to be living in Newburgh with son Nathan in 1850, age 72.

According to Early Potters & Potteries of N. Y. State Selah worked with Nathaniel Burling from 1803 to around 1824 and may have been a potter. He helped run a china and glass store.

Selah made his will on 26 Nov 1836 and it was proved 14 Jun 1837. He mentions the above nine children along with his wife Elizabeth and son-in-law John W Brown, who, along with Christopher, was an executor. John W. Brown became the guardian for his son Selah on 18 Jan 1837. It stated that Selah was "eighteen years on the eleventh day of November last past."

Selah was buried in the Old Town Cemetery in Newburgh. His headstone reads: "SELAH REEVE/Born at Southold Long Island/October 21, 1769/Died in Newburgh/April 11, 1837/HIS WIFE/ELIZABETH VANDUZER/Died May 4 1854/Aged 77 Years."

Research Notes

Note that the birth date recorded in the old Grammar book is 21 Oct. 1768 while the headstone reads 1769.

Either this Selah or his father is listed in the 1790 census in New Windsor, Ulster County, New York.
