Probable Children of William Reeve and Elizabeth Dickerson:
William is mentioned in the will of his father Joseph, dated 19 July 1722. There is only one William mentioned in the 1737 freeholders list and appears to be this William as he is listed just after his brother David Reeve. According to Study of the Reeve family, he and brother Benjamin Reeve are listed as owners of land by Indian Neck in a deed from 1747 from Cravet Wells to Benjamin Wells. This is significant as both William and Benjamin received land from their father in the Indian Neck per his will.
The following marriage from the Salmon records appears to be this William:
- 1722 Oct 18 Wm Reeve & Elesa Dickerson
The following deaths from the Salmon records appear to pertain to this family:
- 1725 Sept 10 Wm Reeves Daughter Infant
- 1726 Oct 20 Wm Reeves child infant
- 1739 Jan 18 Wm Reeve wife Elesabeth
The wife Elizabeth was buried at the Old Burying ground of First Pres Southold. The stone reads: "Here lyes ye Body of/Mrs Elizabeth Reve/Wife to Mr William/Reve Who Died/Janry ye 13th 1738-9 in ye/40 Year of her Age."
Noe that the headstone states she died the 13th while the Salmon records indicate the 18th.
William seems to have married at least once more according to the Salmon Records:
- 1740 March 6 Wm Reeve & Sarah Mapes
Study of the Reeve family mentions a deed from 1747 in which William and Sarah Reeve sold two tracts of land to Elijah Hutchinson. It's clear then that he is not the William who married Mary Case in 1745.
William was still living on 20 Dec 1764 when letters of administration were issued to him for his son Jonathan's estate.
Research Notes
It's likely either this William or his son William Jr. is the one who died in Oct 1782 at Wading River according to the Salmon Records.Sources
