Mary applied for Administratrix on the estate of John Reeves 4 Aug 1814. John Reeves's estate was appraised on 9 Aug 1814 in Union County, South Carolina. Mary was the Administratrix of the estate. The following were buyers at the estate and are presumed to be children: Ace Reeves, Elizabeth Reeves, Ann Reeves. The accounts say that the widow Mary received a third of the proceeds and after that there were seventeen legatees who each received $10.61, a total of $180.42 1/2 for those seventeen.

Other children listed are currently based on proximity.

There was apparently another Zachariah Reeves living in Union County who may have been a brother to this John Reeves. He received some land from a William White in an 1804 deed.

The 1880 census for his probable son Zachariah Reeves states his father was born in Virginia. Thus it's likely John was from Virginia. He may have been the John Reeves who was from Virginia and lived in Wilkes County, North Carolina in the late 1700s.

Research Notes

This may be the same individual as Reeves_John_3225 a son of Isaac Reeves who was believed to have immigrated from Ireland based upon the biography of his grandson. Issac Reeves was first noted in Mecklenburg County, Virginia when he sold a tract of land to Ephraim Puckett in 1765. [Deed Book 1, pg. 165] Union County has a large number of original families from Mecklenburg County, Virginia, and they all settled in the Pinckney/Jonesville area. Ephriam Puckett of Mecklenburg VA later migrated to Union, South Carolina and lived in the same vicinity as John Reeves.
