John Reeves appears to have left no spouse or children for none are named in his will. His will, written on 2 Oct 1736, names as legatees his sisters, Elizabeth Reeves, Patience Gatewood and Ann Reeves, and his brothers, George Reeves and Thomas Reeves.The will of John Reeves of Southfarnham parish and County of Essex was dated 2 October 1736. Sister Eliza Reeves. Sister Patience Gatewood. Sister Ann Reeves. Brother George Reeves to be executor. Brother Thomas Reeves. Implies mother is still living. Signed John Reeves. On 15 July 1740, George Reeves and ffrancis Attwood were bound unto John Allen £20 sterling as a result of a judgement that day in Essex County court wherein John Allen and Elizabeth his wife late Elizabeth Reeves were plaintiffs against George Reeves executor of the last will and testament of John Reeves deceased. KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that we George Reeves and Francis Attwood are held and firmly bound unto John Allen his heirs in the sum of Twenty pounds Sterling Witness our hands & Seals this 15th day of July 1740
THE CONDITION of this obligacon is such that Whereas Judgment being this day given in Essex County Court unto the sd John Allen & Elizabeth his Wife late Elizabeth Reeves agst ye sd George Reeves Exr. of the Last Will and Testament of John Reeves deced in a suit in Chancery depending between the sd George Reeves Exr. of the sd Jno Reeves & the sd John Allen & Elizabeth his Wife the sd George Reeves had an appeal granted him to the Eighth day of the next General Court giveing security according to Law if therefore ye sd George Reeves appealant as aforesaid shall accordingly appear and prosecute the appeal at the sd next General Court & pay all Costs and fifty Shillings Currt. money or Five hundred pounds of tobacco which the Law gives in case he shall be Cast in the said appeal that then this obligation to be void otherwise to be in full force George Reeves Frs Attwood
At a Court held for Essex County at Tappa on the 15th day of July 1740
George Reeves & Francis Attwood acknowledged this bond to be their act and deed which on the motion of the within John Allen was admitted to record
