Narrative
Little is presently known about the early life of Sophia ROBINS and no baptism has yet been identified. The 1851 Census return suggests she was born in Chedworth around 1795. She likely married Charles Reeves sometime before February 1824, when their daughter Amy was baptised. The known children of Charles Reeves and his wife Sophia (nee ROBINS) are
- Amy Reeves, bapt Feb 1824
- David Reeves, bapt Aug 1825
- Isaac Reeves, bapt Aug 1825
- Amey Reeves, bapt Jan 1828
- Daniel Reeves, bapt May 1830
- Eliza Reeves, bapt Sep 1831, died May 1832
- Adelaid Reeves, bapt Sep 1833
- Eliza Reeves, bapt Mar 1835
- Rachael Reeves, bapt Aug 1838, died Aug 1838
- Charles Reeves, bapt Aug 1838, died Sep 1838
Rachael and Charles were likely twins; they share the same GRO Birth Registration Index reference and their birth registrations provided their mother's maiden name of ROBINS.
On the 1841 census taken on 6 June, Sohpia is the head of household at Colehay, in the parish of Charlton Abbots. She appears with three children, Daniel, Adelaid and Eliza.
At the time of the 1851 census, on 30 March, Sophia is again the head of household. She is 56 years old, a widow, born in Chedworth, Gloucestershire. Her son Daniel is living with her and they have a visitor, Mary Ann ROWLAND. See Commentary on 1851 census gleaning
Sophia has not be identified on the 1861 census; her son Daniel is now head of his own household in the City of Gloucester.
It is most probable hers is the death noted in the GRO Index to Deaths during the first quarter of 1856 in the Winchcomb(e) Registration District, age 60.
