TRP Anniversary 2019
by Beverly WatsonWhat an amazing 9 years this has been. When I suggested this little project to the Reeves’ list on April 1st nine years ago, I really never imagined that we could invent such a wonderful database of Reeves’ families. Thanks so much to Barry and all the other Reeves’ descendants who thought we could do it and made it happen.
Having access to Y-DNA results has made the project so much more credible than those early days of genealogy when much of our work was marred by the use of proximity as a valid indicator of kinship. We stumbled around searching unindexed census on reels of microfilm at libraries who offered such things, scoured courthouses and cemeteries at times wading around in knee high overgrowth. I don’t miss the unindexed microfilm but still love the courthouses and cemeteries.
Nine years later we still occasionally have some kinks to work out, but we’ve identified most of the primary Reeves’ populations along the US eastern seaboard and begun tracking them as they migrated west. And each year we add a few more international members so maybe someday we can link Reeves’ populations all over the world back to our roots in the UK. I hope the next nine years are as rewarding as these last nine have been.
Wiki Stats - End March 2019
The total number of pages in the Wiki (as at 1 April 2019) now stands at 8685 (previously 8624, 8564, 8393) an increase of 61 pages during the month. Of the total, 1692 pages (was 1680, 1672, 1653) begin with a number and are most probably a date related gleaning. We currently have 3778 wiki pages categorised as "People", of which 3326 begin with the letter "R".Community members should log in to see more.
TRP Users
We ended March 2019 with 378 user accounts registered in TRP an increase of seven over the previous month. Seven users successfully activated their accounts during the month. We welcome new community members John, Yvonne, Steven, Margaret, Sara, Bryan and Jan and look forward to reading their contributions to TRP. John, Stephen and Bryan have already created an AboutMe page as described in First Steps - Part 2; well done to you all. And Bryan has really got the bit between his teeth and has added a number of new Person pages and his first Gleaning page. If you're determined enough, TRP can be easily tamed ;-)If you have yet to do so, please set a meaningful name for yourself as described in First Steps - Part 1. It isn't difficult and only takes a couple of minutes to do.
If you have already started the enrollment process and are having issues, please do let us know. Reeves DNA Project Update
At the end of March the project had 319 members, up from 303 at the end of December 2018. In January we welcomed to the project six new members (one of whom has subsequently withdrawn); Michael, Dwayne, Darwin, Donald and Star. Seven new members joined us in February; Thomas, Debbie, Alexander, Dale, Brenda, Heather and Yvonne. And most recently in March we've had three new members join, welcome Sandra, Misty and Phyllis.During the quarter we've seen a number of results come in, including two sets of mt-DNA results and no new Family Finder (at-DNA) results for project members. We were also notified of eight sets of Y-DNA results during the quarter, two of which were upgrades for existing members. We also had one new project member who had tested prior to joining the Reeves DNA Project during this quarter. These seven new results have been grouped as follows

After nearly a decade since DNA Group 13 was formed, during February 2019, TRP member Michael became the third member of this group. All three members know their ancestors came from the eastern part of the the County of Kent, England.

And Finally - News from elsewhere
After a very long period of time without an Administrator, in mid March it was great to read that RootsWeb had finally allowed Beverly to adopt the Reeves list. Even though it had continued to function, the lack of an administrator had meant the list had been designated as "inactive". There has since been a flurry of messages sent via the list. If you are not a subscriber you can still browse the monthly archives, see https://lists.rootsweb.com/hyperkitty/list/reeves.rootsweb.com/2019/3/If you do read those messages, you'll see mention of the old Reeves DNA Project pages which were hosted at RootsWeb. Remember those RootsWeb pages are no longer maintained by Barry, with the last changes made in February 2015 and we retain them purely for their historical interest. You'll find the latest Reeves DNA Project results and donor groupings at https://www.familytreedna.com/public/reeves?iframe=ycolorized and here within TRP's DNA Group Pages you'll find the latest news and analysis concerning those groups plus pages showing the extended Family Groups of the progenitors based on the pages within TRP.
