Happy Twelveth Birthday to TRP
by BeverlyHere we are at TRP's twelveth birthday! Seems like just a couple of years ago we launched this project aimed at collaborating and sharing the results of our research into our Reeves' families. We've amassed an amazing database of documented Reeves' history and whenever possible been able to prove the family connections with the Y-DNA results that help separate truth from myths. Working together has been a great benefit to the progress we've made.
Thanks to everyone who has become a member of TRP and worked to develop this great resource and especially a big thank you to Barry who has made it all possible. Once again, happy April Fool's Day and congratulations TRP!
Wiki Stats - End March 2022
The total number of pages in the Wiki (as at 1 April 2022) now stands at 11949 (previously 11823, 11725, 11605), an increase of over 120 pages during the month. Of the total, 2379 pages (was 2359, 2336, 2313) begin with a number and are most probably a date related gleaning. We currently have 5299 wiki pages categorised as "People", of which 4781 begin with the letter "R".Community members should log in to see more.
TRP Users
We ended March with 498 user accounts registered in TRP, an increase of 3 over the month. We had two users successfully activated their account during the past month. We welcome Jaimie and Benjamin to our community and look forward to reading their contributions to TRP. Both have already created an AboutMe page for themselves following the guidance found at First Steps - Part 2 - thank you and well done. Clesa, who joined us late last month, also deserves second mention, having added numerous person pages to their branch of their Reeves tree.If you are having issues activating your account or have simply lost interest, please do let us know. Please contact New User Admin by sending an email to TRP123 (at) TheReevesProject (dot) org if you're stuck and need help or have subsequently decided you don't want to join our community. If you are not yet a member and would like to contribute to our community, please see our About Us page to find out a little more about TRP and then please complete our Join Us form to start the membership enrolment process.
Whether you joined TRP recently or a while ago, if you have yet to do so, please set a meaningful name for yourself as described in First Steps - Part 1. It isn't difficult and only takes a couple of minutes to do. If it helps, think of it as a (small) name label badge; so your first name plus the surname by which you are presently known (or at least the surname initial) would generally be a good choice. Source Citations
With the release of the US 1950 census on 1 April 2022, our page Moving Along - Part 12 which provides best practice guidance on how to show sources on Person pages has been updated. Please do take a look at this page for guidance on the common source citations.Software Upgrade - Advanced Notice
The admins here at TRP are just starting work on the next upgrade of the software underpinning our wiki. We don't have a firm time-line in mind at the moment, but we'll let you know via this Latest News page when we do.For our testing we use a copy of the live wiki to make sure that, as far as we are able, everything works as we expect. That copy includes all of the "watches" individual users may have set on specific wiki pages. So if our testing changes the cloned copy of one of the pages you've set a watch on, you will get an e-mail telling you the page has been changed. On the live system those watch notifications come from e-mail address "notifier". If you get a watch notification from e-mail address "T.Notifier", please disregard it, that will be us testing.
Reeves DNA Project Update
The first quarter of 2022 has seen eight new members join the Reeves DNA Project at FtDNA and the total membership at the end of March 2022 is 406.In January we welcomed three new members to the project; Joseph, Brian and David. February was slightly busier with the addition of five new members; Kathealeen, Bev B, Jimmie, Clesa and Fred. And then things ground to a halt in March, when we've seen no new membership requests.
During the past quarter we've received the results for two new Y-DNA members, with one additional set of results for a new member currently being processed by FtDNA
Kit 971015 for Joe Hubble added to DNA Group XX
Kit 971763 for BR presently ungroupedJoe kindly completed our DNA Donor Permission e-mail and also confirmed his most recent Reeves ancestor was female, making him a member of our DNA Group XX. BR's Y-DNA test results currently don't closely match any other members of the Reeves DNA Project. The closest match they have is a 35/37 and it happens to be to another individual with the surname Reeves, but sadly the other party is not a member of our project. We would encourage all new Y-DNA donors or their representatives to make contact and allow us to identify them within TRP.Whilst we will automatically move Y-DNA matched results to the appropriate Project Group, we do not move unmatched results to DNA Group XX without explicit confirmation from the donor or their proxy. If we can keep the ungrouped pool free of results we know should never expect a Reeves Y-DNA match then it makes life much easier for both the admins and those project members hoping to find a Reeves Y-DNA match. Please take a minute to read DNA Group XX's home page within TRP for information on how to provide consent. All it takes is a simple proforma e-mail as described on the Home page.
During the past quarter we've seen no notifications for new Family Finder results (from a new at-DNA Donor) and one notification of the results from a new mt-DNA donor.
