April 2025 - Happy Fifteenth Birthday

Happy Birthday TRP

                  by Beverly

Once again, it's Happy Birthday TRP time. I usually point out that we began this project on April Fool's Day, now 15 years ago. However it really was anything but foolish because it's been a wonderful undertaking. Many Reeves' descendants have accurately identified their earliest Reeves' ancestor thanks to our access to the Reeves' DNA Project and we've increased our DNA groups to 24 plus group XX for members descending from Reeves' maternal lines. Besides having the benefit of DNA to correct lineages which had once been incorrectly estimated based upon proximity, we've also collaborated and created a database of Reeves' families and their descendants back to colonial times.

Wiki Stats - End March 2025

The total number of pages in the Wiki (as at 1 April 2025) now stands at 14757 (previously 14752, 14748, 14730), an increase of just 5 pages during March - another very quiet month. here at TRP   Of the total, 3035 pages (was 3035, 3034, 3031) begin with a number and are most probably a date related gleaning.   We currently have 6616 wiki pages categorised as "People", of which 6089 begin with the letter "R". No, I've not done a copy/paste and forgotten to update the numbers. For the second month running, we've sadly had no new People pages added.

Community members should log in to see more.
The chart below shows our growth over the past fifteen years. In the twelve months since TRP's last birthday, we've collectively added 581 pages of information relating to our R*v*(s) ancestors and their families. but notice how the curve has flattened in the past few months.

From the 66 enquiries about membership we received during the same period, The Reeves Project has seen 25 new members activate their account and join our community.   The more active we all are here at TRP, the more likely it is that we'll attract more cousins to come forward and help grow our collective knowledge and break down some of those brick walls we all have in our R*v*(s) family trees.

TRP Users

During March we have received four new enquiries about membership of TRP, one less than during the previous month. We ended the month with 592 user accounts registered in TRP, an increase of three over the previous month. We had two users successfully activated their account during March. We welcome Tim B and Steve W to the TRP Community. At the time of writing neither has yet created an AboutMe Page, please do take a look at First Steps - Part 2 for a reminder.

If you are having issues activating your account or have simply lost interest, please do let us know. Please contact New User Admin by sending an email to TRP123 (at) TheReevesProject (dot) org if you're stuck and need help or have subsequently decided you don't want to join our community. If you are not yet a member and would like to contribute to our community, please see our About Us page to find out a little more about TRP and then please complete our Join Us form to start the membership enrolment process.

Whether you joined TRP recently or a while ago, if you have yet to do so, please set a meaningful name for yourself as described in First Steps - Part 1. It isn't difficult and only takes a couple of minutes to do. If it helps, think of it as a (small) name label badge; so your first name plus the surname by which you are presently known (or at least the surname initial) would generally be a good choice. You'll find links to the remainder of the our six part First Steps as part of the FAQ - First Steps. Those same First Steps are also a great refresher for anybody returning to The Reeves Project after a period away.

Reeves DNA Project Update - 1q2025

The start of the new year has seen a welcome up-tick in interest in membership of the Reeves DNA Project at FtDNA.   We've seen six new members join the project during the first quarter of 2025 and the total current membership is now 461 (as of 29 March 2025).

During January 2025 we were joined by David Rives, whose kit is managed by Dylan Platz, Linda G. and Steve H. February saw Ryan R. join the project and most recently in March we welcomed Selle R. and Jereme R. to the project.

Through the past quarter we've added four new sets of Y-DNA test results to share with the Project.
Kit    1024375 for David Rives added to DNA Group 08
Kit    1024839 for Ryan P Reeves added to DNA Group 08
Kit    B697567 for HS presently ungrouped
Kit    N113741 for Ronnie Reeves added to DNA Group 03
We are grateful to Ryan for kindly submitting a Donor Consent Form and to Dylan for providing DNA Proxy Permission on behalf of David and to Jerri for providing DNA Proxy Permission on behalf of Ronnie.

As ever, we would encourage all new Y-DNA donors or their representatives to make contact and allow us to identify them within TRP. This is particularly significant if your connection to the R*v*(s) surname is from a female ancestor and you have taken a Y-DNA test. Please take a minute to read DNA Group XX's home page within TRP.

There has been a steady stream of match notifications for existing members of our project during the past quarter, including 1 notifications of Y-67 match and 56 notifications of Y-37 matches.

During the past quarter we've seen no notifications for existing project members receiving new Big-Y results. We've seen one new set of Family Finder results added for a member of our project and none from a new mt-DNA donor during the past quarter.

If you missed last quarter's summary, the DNA Project Update for 4q2024 is available here.
