Deaths from Goshen Pres Church Records:
  • 1824 Oct 12 Daniel Reeves (age) 62

The records show that his wife was Nancy Reeve. She was baptized 4 May 1823 and registered as a member on 2 Aug 1823.

In a mortgage from Daniel and his wife Nancy dated 26 Feb 1801, Daniel is referred to as "Daniel Reeve the younger." He appears in a list of militia from Orange County from the Revolutionary War as Daniel Reeve Jr. alongside a Daniel Reeve. This seems strong evidence that this is the son of the elder Daniel Reeve who had moved to Goshen from Suffolk County.

The will of Joann S. Reeve, written 11 Jun 1829, proved 1 Dec 1829, refers to her "beloved mother Nancy Reeves", "my brother James C. Reeves", and "my sister Sarah M. Hudson."

The will of Nancy Reeve, written on 15 Jun 1832 and probated 10 Jan 1844, mentions "Daniel Reeve Hudson, Nancy Cooper Hudson, Susan Hudson, and William Schyler Hudson, children of my only daughter now living, Sarah M. Hudson wife of Jonathan Hudson of the town of Bloomingrove in the said County."

The following is from a set of Abstracts of Orange County, New York Surrogate Records from Goshen included in the Yesteryear publication:
  • Adm. 7-24-1832: James Reeve d 6-18-1814 in the Army of the U. S. A. Left no widow, no child, no brother and sisters, except Joanna Case wife of John Case, now dec'd, that he left nephews and nieces to wit the children of Joanna Case, the children of Isaac Reeve and Daniel Reeve of whom petitioner James C. Reeve is one. That the said Joanna Case renounced all right to letters or adm. of the estate. The estate does not exceed $200. James C. Reeve appt. adm. 7-24-1832. Joanna Case of the Town of Hopewell sister of James Reeve, late of Orange Co. dec'd renounced 7-10-1832.

The petitioner James C. Reeve is the son of Daniel. These records therefore show that Daniel had siblings James (d. 18 Jun 1814), Joanna Case wife of John Case, and Isaac (who left children).

On 1 Nov 1824, Jonathan and Sarah M Hudson and Joann Reeve deeded to James C. Reeve their "right title interest claim & demand of in and to all the real estate that Daniel Reeve deceased late of Goshen aforesaid died seized & possessed of."

The following information is from cemetery transcriptions of the Hamptonburgh Cemetery where Daniel is buried:
  • Reeve, Daniel (Jr). Died 11 Oct 1824. Age 62y 10m 3d. Revolutionary Solider
  • Reeve, Nancy. Died 4 Dec 1843. Age 70y. Wife of Daniel Reeve

Research Notes

The fact that Daniel had siblings named Isaac and James and lived in Orange County would seem to suggest that they were children of James Reeve who died in 1803. However, that James did not have a daughter named Joanna. Additionally, it is known that his son James Jr. died 15 Jan 1837 and therefore is not the James Reeve brother to this Daniel.
